Modify Court Order

Modify Court Order

Life changes — and sometimes, so must your court orders. In North Dakota, you can petition the court to modify an existing family law order when there has been a material change in circumstances. This includes changes in child custody, parenting time, child support, or spousal support.

Under North Dakota Century Code §§ 14-05-22 and 14-09-06.6, modifications may be granted when one party loses a job, relocates, remarries, experiences health issues, or when the child’s needs change significantly. The court’s priority is always the best interests of the child in custody-related cases, and the fairness of financial obligations in support-related matters.

In Bismarck, Minot, Williston, and Dickinson, judges expect clear evidence of substantial change before modifying existing orders. At Heartland Law Office, we help clients navigate this complex process — whether you’re requesting a change or opposing one. We handle everything from negotiating revised agreements to representing you in court if necessary.
